“If you pour yourself out for the hungry

and satisfy the desire of the afflicted,

then shall your light rise in the darkness

and your gloom be as the noonday”

— Isaiah 58:10

Dave's Story:

In 2012, I was working full-time in the automobile industry. Then, one Sunday, I heard the above scripture during a sermon and found myself with a new calling. Soon after, I left my manager role and began pursuing ministry full-time.

My mission was to help those on the fringes of society. I formed a Christ-centered, sober-living facility based in Houston, Texas. I witnessed firsthand the power of the gospel in the residents’ lives - long-term sobriety, physical healing, unified families, and renewed spirit suddenly became achievable goals. However, despite this spiritual growth, there was one aspect of life residents still struggled with across the board - finding meaningful work.

I traveled the country to discover the best ways to fill this gap. In Denver, I visited a group called CrossPurpose. What made CrossPurpose different was its holistic approach to poverty in all forms (spiritual, economic, and relational) and its reliance on a community of believers to create a vehicle for improving lives. Finally, the pieces for what would become Good Works Collective began to fall into place. I returned to Houston with a renewed vision, but first, I needed a business partner with a corporate leadership background and a passion for the cause that matched my own.

Jack's Story:

While working in the software industry, I invested my time in my community. I became the point of contact between Grace Bible Church and Open Door Mission and started leading a location for an early-morning men’s workout group known as F3. Witnessing men transform from passivity into agency over body and mind at ODM and F3 was exhilarating and brought me profound joy.

With my Computer Science degree from Texas A&M, I’ve been fortunate to lead software developers in the startup and financial trading industries. But when Dave called with Good Works Collective, I knew God wanted me somewhere else. With nothing but joy, I switch to ministry and cultivating leaders full-time.

Our Vision:

Good Works Collective aims to cultivate people in financially underserved communities to dream again through Godly community and career and leadership training. We will teach soft and hard skills so our students can launch into careers with earnings above the poverty line and opportunities for upward mobility. We will have a community that equips and empowers people in our program to connect with industry experts in our collective. God wants us to be in a community, and with a good one, anything is possible.
